How do you know when it is the right time to see a dermatologist?  Afterall, everybody has minor skin problems from time to time.  Ranging anywhere from acne to itchy rashes, that just won't go away. The majority of minor skin complaints don't warrant treatment, so sometimes it can be hard to determine whether or not to go.  One thing to keep in mind is how long you have had the specific ailment. If you have a rash that doesn't seem to get better within a few days, you  may want to consider seeing your regular doctor.  If that does not bring any satisfaction, than a trip to the dermatologist may be necessary.  Also, something to consider is you own genetics.  If skin cancer runs in your family than it may be in your best interest to schedule regular appointments (every 6 months to 1 year) just to stay on top of it.   If you are prone to or have a lot of moles, keeping an eye on that is mandatory.  Should you see any change in a mole than that should signal a trip to see a Dermatologist.

Although the type of skin we have is determined mostly by genetics, it is our responsibility to maintain it and keep it looking good.  Sometimes, you do not realize the damage you can do to your skin until it is too late.  But our diets and how much we exercise can all play into our skin’s appearance.  Using sunscreen and yearly visits to a dermatologist can help prevent any future problems we may encounter with our skin.  Afterall, our skin is our largest organ in your body, it is the first line of defense we have to protecting our immune system so taking care of it properly is not just about our outward appearance, but more importantly for our overall health.
